Last night I completed my first collage in 2015. This piece was commissioned by a teacher from Washington state, who is having her students study my work in class. I think it’s absolutely wonderful that she reached out to me to have a work of art made that she can share with her students, so they can see one of my collages in person! I also had a lot of fun working on this piece – especially with the detailing for the gator’s scales.

And now I’m off frame and prep the collage for shipping…

Bosty goes to Phoenix, AZ

Bosty has been spending a lot of time in Arizona these days. He figures D.C. weather gets too cold this time of year, so it’s nice to take a trip to a warmer climate.

We wound up in Phoenix, Arizona – and since Phoenix is so close to Scottsdale, we made sure to stop by Old Town Scottsdale.

When we walked by the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art, Bosty insisted we go inside. “You are an artist…you should look at some art!”

He was really excited about James Turrell’s Knight Rise public art exhibit. “Look at those colors!”

The exhibit had a beautiful walkway. Bosty just had to get his picture taken all around the art display….

Including a room that had an oval cut out in the ceiling so you could gaze at that inredibly blue Arizona sky.

After spending plenty of time staring at art, we were off on another walk around town. I wonder where we’ll end up next?

The cold weather this weekend made it a perfect time to stay inside and work on some artwork. At the moment I’m experimenting with a few digital pieces, but I had a chance to piece together this small collage. The Washington Monument is something that has popped up quite a bit in my cityscape work. I like the simplicity of the monument, it gives me more room to play with abstract shapes of color and texture.

Bosty goes to Flagstaff, AZ

Bosty decided to start the day off in Flagstaff, Arizona by getting a cup of mocha from Macy’s European Coffeehouse.

He liked people watching out the window while sipping his coffee.

Next we did some wandering around the area, and did a little window shopping.

Bosty was anxious to see more of Mother Nature, so we hiked a few trails to take a look at the aspens.

The aspens sure looked beautiful all dressed up in yellow.

Before long, it was getting late and the sun began to set. Bosty liked staring at the Arizona sunset – so colorful!

It was another day full of activity. Bosty isn’t ready to leave the area just yet – he has some ideas of other cities to visit out west.

Bosty goes to the Grand Canyon

Bosty decided to head over to visit the Grand Canyon. “My oh my,” Bosty said, “that sure looks grand!”

He strolled around to take a look at the canyon from different angles. He also liked the interesting trees and shrubs that were growing alongside the pathways.

There were some red rocks in the area that reminded him of his Sedona, Arizona trip.

And wow, look at that tree! An interesting silhouette against the Arizona sky.

Bosty was having so much fun that before he knew it, it started to get late. The sun began to set and he enjoyed taking in the views at dusk.

He was also impressed by the wild clouds in the sky. Before long, it was nighttime. Bosty decided that the Grand Canyon was so much fun that he’d have to stay in Arizona a little longer to explore some other sights.

Here’s my latest small landscape collage. I’m feeling a bit uninspired by landscapes at the moment, so I think now is a good time to turn back to some still life food collages. That’s always the best solution when a subject isn’t inspiring me at any given time – just change things up a bit and shift to something else.

Bosty goes to Sedona, AZ

Bosty decided to hop on a plane and head over to Arizona to warm up – Washington, DC has been getting pretty chilly these days. His first stop was Sedona, Arizona. He’s heard a lot about the beautiful red rocks there.

He decided to go on a Pink Jeep Tour. Whenever Bosty plays the role of a tourist, he wants to do it right.

And touring the area was definitely a highlight. Bosty couldn’t get enough of the beautiful red rock views. “Look at this one!”

“Ohhh, look at this one too!”

The sky was so blue that day – blue and beautiful. The day went by pretty quickly, and before we knew it, it was time to hit the road again. Bosty has quite a few ideas of other places he’d like to see in area.

A couple of weeks ago I completed this commissioned collage of a red fox. I definitely had a lot of fun working on this one. I enjoyed working with the color palette and finding bits and pieces of texture to add alongside solid pieces of color. Foxes are such beautiful and colorful creatures. No wonder I liked putting together this collage.

As an artist living in the Washington, DC area, I’m constantly inspired by the city around me. I like wandering around the National Mall, taking snapshots to save for inspiration for future works of art.

This particular piece was an interesting challenge – since the collage is only 5″x7″, the magazine strips I cut were incredibly small. Anyway, it was fun to revisit a familiar subject. My next piece just might be another landscape/cityscape collage.
