Corgis are my favorite type of dog, and I can’t believe that this is actually my first collage portrait of a corgi. Needless to say, there will be more of these collages in the future!

I usually like to tackle animal collages, so I decided to change things up a bit and work on another still life piece. It’s been a while since I’ve made a new work of art – sometimes life can get pretty hectic. This year is proving to be a busy one for me, with more traveling and a lot of classes that I’m taking at night. What can I say? I have a lot of interests that keep my days pretty busy.

Anyway, I think I’ll work on cranking out another still life collage next.

Coffee is definitely a popular subject matter for me. What can I say? Coffee fuels me and inspires me.

I’ve been devoting so much time and energy to animal collages these days, that I decided to take a break and focus a little bit more on other subjects. There may be a few more still life pieces in my future. We shall see…

Animal Collages from Canada

Coyle-inspired Collage from Canada

A class of six graders from Canada studied endangered animals, selected an animal to write a story about, and then created collages of the animals after taking a look at my artwork. Their 12″x18″ collages are for sale online at Kids Art for a Cause, where the proceeds from their sales will be donated to the World Wildlife Fund.

It was great getting to see what these students made and that all proceeds are going to a good cause.

I’ve made quite a few bird-related collages over the years, but this is definitely the first time I’ve tackled a duck portrait. Seems like I’ve made it a habit to make animal portraits these past couple of years. I really do enjoy animal compositions, although I feel like I should start exploring some landscape/cityscapes again, as well as possibly still life. Sometimes it’s good to change things up.

Scape Collages from Frederick, Maryland

Student Collages inspired by Megan Coyle

The other day I received images of student collage work from a teacher, Andrea, who teaches at a high school in Frederick, Maryland.

Andrea’s students learned about my work and then created their own landscape/cityscape collages while using my “painting with paper” technique.

As always, I really enjoyed seeing what the students came up with on their own – and how they mixed textures with solid colors.

This is still one of my favorite parts of being an artist – being able to inspire others to make art. I hope the students enjoyed tackling collage, and it was truly wonderful seeing their creations.

Landscape Collages from England

Megan Coyle-inspired collages from the UK

A couple of weeks ago I received a sweet email from a teacher, Karen, who lives in England. She told me that she decided to link a class art topic to collage landscapes, and found my work online.

Her students, who are seven and eight year-olds, studied my work and applied the same techniques to their own collages of the school grounds.

As always, I thoroughly enjoyed seeing what the students came up on their own. And it’s always wonderful to see the work of budding artists.

Bosty goes to Los Angeles

Bosty goes to LA

Bosty decided to take a break from the DC winter by heading off to Los Angeles, California. His first stop? The La Brea Tar Pits where he could truly blend in as a tourist.

Bosty goes to LA

Then he headed next door to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art to see the Frank Gehry exhibit.

He also wanted to take a look at all the modern art – especially the Abstract Expressionist art!

Then he decided to wander around LA, checking out some of the antique and artsy stores.

Art Works Studio? He was definitely a fan of that gallery and its clever name.

Later he popped over to SAG AFTRA in hopes that by posing by the building, he could automatically become a SAG actor. Sorry, Bosty. It doesn’t quite work that way.

Bosty goes to LA

If he couldn’t become a SAG actor instantly, he decided the next best thing was doing a studio tour of a major motion picture company, so he chose Paramount Pictures. He just had to get his picture by that iconic water tower…

And by the Paramount Pictures sign, with plenty of palm trees in view.

Bosty was really in the Hollywood spirit, so he decided to walk on the stars along the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

All that walking inspired him to go on a hike at Runyon Canyon, where he could check out gorgeous views of the city.

Next up? Griffith Observatory where he could continue to take in beautiful views of the cityscape.

He decided to hike around the Griffith Observatory and was pleased to see this sign. Good to know that the fire danger is low today, Smokey the Bear!

Bosty goes to LA

Time sure does fly when you wander the city! It started to get late so Bosty wanted to check out the sunset at Santa Monica Pier. Wow, just look at that sky!

Bosty goes to LA

And since he was already by the pier, why not go on a few carnival rides? Don’t mind if I do!

Before long, it was time to head home. Bosty was going to miss that warm weather, but it gave him an idea of some other warm places he’d like to visit soon.

Beagles are one of my all-time favorite kind of dog, so of course I had to go and make a beagle portrait. However, I also really like corgis, although I have yet to make a corgi collage. Perhaps that will be the subject for my next piece…
