And still trekking along with the landscape/cityscape series. I’m doing my best to get inspired by my DC surroundings. I’ve got to admit, I’m much more interested in animals and people as subjects – they are so intricate and interesting. So it’s quite the challenge working on this series. But of course the challenge is much needed – I need to explore and experiment with other subjects.

And here’s the finished version. I might do another angle of this scene for another collage in this series. We shall see…and it looks like I might do more than twenty new collages for this series. At first I was thinking of making the series all the same size, but now I’m thinking about the possibility of making a variety of different sized collages.

Here’s the first collage I’ve done for my new scapes series. I’m planning to create twenty new collages in all, which will be inspired by D.C./Northern Virginia area sights. Once the series is complete, I’ll display the work in an exhibit next year.

“Urban Sunsets” is inspired by D.C. sunsets, with an office-building skyline. More scenes to come soon…

To change things up a bit – since I’ve been working on so many animal collages – I decided to put together a landscape piece. In the next couple of weeks I should probably get started on a new series of landscape pieces. I have a solo show next year where I’d like to exhibit landscape and cityscape collages of various sights around the DC area. And since landscape isn’t an easy subject for me to tackle, because I’m more interested in figures and animals, it will be quite a challenge. Thus I figure it’s better to get started early on that project so I can ensure that all the artwork is a consistent quality for the show.

This is a piece that I completed a few days ago. My client wanted me to make an abstract landscape, somewhat similar to “The Artist from a Distance” collage. So now I just need to frame it and deliver it to its new home. I’m also beginning to do a bit of work on my first chinchilla portrait. Chinchillas sure are cute!

Anyway, I’m off to run a few errands. And I can’t believe it’s almost December and before long it will be 2012. Wow, it still blows my mind how fast a year can creep by.

This was one of the background pieces I created for the Birdy animation project. We ended up using a different collage for the project, but I thought I’d share this one as well. This piece is a bit abstract and uses a lot of rectangular strips of paper – which is what I usually use with scapes.

Another day, another collage. Decided to crank out another abstract landscape piece before I dive back into my children’s book illustrations. I had to put the book project on hold for a while as I worked on the new education section of my website. So now I’m back at it – I have about four more to do, but then of course comes the editing and revisions I’ll need to do to the previous pieces. I’m getting pretty excited about it and hope to have everything completed within the next couple of months.

I decided to put together another abstract landscape collage today. It’s really nice to change up my technique to make these – they’re pretty fun to do. Usually I focus a lot of time on little details, and it’s nice to cut loose and just focus on color and texture while tearing paper instead of cutting it.

I’m still working away as usual. March has been a quiet month for my blog – I hope to post more next month. I’m striving to finish a couple large projects relatively soon, so once they’re completed that should free up my schedule a bit. Anyway, I’m off to work on some more illustrations.
