I had a lot of fun with this one – I focused mainly on texture and tried to stay away from solid colors (although I still went ahead and added a few solid color shapes to this). I didn’t take any progress pictures of the “Mallard Duck,” because I was in the zone while working on him. After I completed this piece, I realized that it may have been inspired by all the mallard ducks I collaged for Duck & Fish.
So in my last post I mentioned we had an earthquake here. Then this weekend we had a hurricane alert for Irene. I heard lots of people swarmed the stores for milk and bread, although I stocked up on books and green tea to read my way through the storm. Turns out it only lasted a day, and it wasn’t that bad at all. Just got a bit of rain and strong winds. The only casualty was our grill that got knocked over, but no damage was done to anything near us. Hope everyone else stayed safe during the storm!
This is a beautiful collage, the water is amazing and the mallard has lots of character.
Glad the hurricane wasn’t too bad where you are
I was wondering if this was an image from Dusk and Fish.
I’m glad the storm was not as big as expected because big storms are very bad.
I really like how the shapes formed as a waves of water and a duck. It’s a pretty good combination of colors. I truly appreciate how you’ve done it!
Megan there is an interesting time lapse video of an artist at work at this link http://artistjamesblackwell.blogspot.com/2011/08/scott-marr-time-lapse-video.html
Maybe you could do something similar one day.
It’s like you read my mind! I’ve been thinking about doing something like that, although haven’t gotten around to it just yet. Have just started dabbling in film editing 🙂
I’m so glad to hear you were alright when Hurricane Irene toggled through your area. SO glad everyone stayed safe.
This piece just fills my eyes. I had to write and tell you so–I LOVE this duck. (Grin)
Have a lovely day!
The varying patterns are great, you use the paper well in the collage to manage the shapes the depth of the duck and water. I love you use of browns within the water. It does look like paint at first sight, but the fact it is a collage makes it even better!
