Celebrating Twenty Years in Del Ray

Gorilla by collage artist Megan Coyle

Yesterday I gallery sat for the Del Ray Artisans. Their current exhibition “XX – Celebrating Twenty Years in Del Ray!” includes a variety of artwork depicting all kinds of subject matter. My “Gorilla” collage is in the exhibit and the picture above shows it hanging in this group show.

And now I’m off to gather inspiration for more animal collages as well as a few landscape/cityscape pieces. I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!

This weekend I did some gallery sitting for the Del Ray Artisans’ group exhibit, “It’s All About the Little Things.” I took a few pictures of my pieces that are up in the exhibit – above and below you can see images of my “Mr. Quackers,” “Scottish Terrier,” and “Ragamuffin” mini collages. The show featured small works of art by local artists.

The last day of the exhibit is actually today. And then the next show on my plate is a solo show in Manassas, Virginia in February.

Made in the U.S.A.

Yesterday I did some gallery sitting for the Del Ray Artisans. They currently have their “Made in the U.S.A.” exhibition on display. The show runs from July 1st until the 22nd, and features artwork inspired by U.S. people, places, and things.

As usual, I had to take a few installation pictures of my collages in the exhibit – “Lincoln Memorial” and “Washington Monument.”

There’s a bit of a funny story behind my two pieces in this show. Apparently the labels got mixed up so that “Lincoln Memorial” was beside the Washington Monument while “Washington Monument” was beside the Lincoln Memorial. Apparently lots of visitors noticed this mix-up and kept approaching the gallery sitters to let them know that the labels needed to be fixed. The curator wasn’t sure if I wanted the labels to be this way – if I was trying to prove some sort of point. Eventually they switched them so the collages were properly labeled. It was pretty amusing to hear how many people took note of the mistake and almost demanded that the labels get fixed on the spot.

I hope everyone is having a Happy Fourth of July! The Del Ray Artisans exhibit is definitely very fitting for the holiday.

"Local Scene" Exhibit at Scene Gallery

Washington Monument by collage artist Megan CoyleAbove is one of the flyers Scene Gallery is using to promote their “Local Scene” exhibit that opens tomorrow. You’ll notice that it features my scape collage, “The Washington Monument,” and if you click on the flyer image, you can see a larger version of it.

I was invited by Scene Gallery to participate in this group exhibition which features the work of local artists. The exhibit is showcasing artwork depicting sights of the Washington, D.C. area. Aside from my “Washington Monument” collage, the show also features my “Lincoln Memorial,” “Masonic Temple,” and “Torpedo Factory.”

I’m excited to participate in this show. Scene Gallery is a fairly new gallery – it opened not even a year ago at National Harbor in Maryland. The opening is on Saturday, June 12th from 6 – 9p.m. I’m looking forward to spending the day in the studio at the Torpedo Factory before heading on over to National Harbor for the reception.

"What’s Your Bag?" Exhibition

I hope everyone had a happy weekend. I spent my Saturday gallery sitting at the Del Ray Artisans for their “What’s Your Bag?” exhibition. The show features artwork that depicts bags in our culture as well as art made from recycled bags. A lot of handmade bags were also included in the show.

Here’s the piece that I had hanging in the exhibition, “The Reader.” There’s a book bag resting on the ground next to the figure spread out on the park bench.

I thought I’d have a productive art-filled weekend, however I was feeling pretty sick and had to spend half my weekend either sleeping or laying in bed. I love keeping busy, so it was pretty difficult for me to force myself to rest up so I could recover. Now I’m feeling much better, and I’m glad I took it easy instead of working away.

Papercutting Exhibition

I took a few pictures of the gallery space where my three collages are up in the Papercutting Exhibition.

The exhibition is open from December 12th – January 4th.

Below you can see “Orange Plains,” “Pink Flower,” and “Figure Seated by the Counter.” I’m a fan of the collage that was hanging in between my landscape and flower collages.
