Kristina, an art teacher from the International English School in Sweden (Internationella Engelska Skolan Jönköping) recently sent along these images of her students’ artwork. These collages were made by year 3 students (ages 9 – 10) and were inspired by my artwork.

I know that this “painting with paper” technique can be a little tough to pick up on, especially for younger artists, so I was very impressed to see how well executed these compositions were.

The students mainly worked with solid colors to create their animal works of art.

And I’m sure that cutting up tiny little pieces like you see in the collage above, was no easy task.

Seeing their interpretations reminded me of why I started working in this medium in the first place – it’s amazing to see how expressive simple paper shapes can be.

To all the young artists in Year 3 – fantastic work! You’ve clearly put so much effort into these pieces, and I hope you’re proud of what you’ve created.
