Two of Coyle’s Collages Now in the Ward Museum’s Permanent Collection

April 2nd, 2012

Megan Coyle’s “Mallard Duck” and “Flamingo Dancers” collages have been accepted into the Ward Museum of Wildfowl Art’s collection. This is the first time Coyle’s work has become part of a museum’s permanent collection.

The Ward Museum of Wildfowl Art is located on the Eastern Shore in Maryland. It promotes wildfowl art and celebrates the Eastern Shore decoy carvers, Lemuel and Stephen Ward – the artists the Museum is named after. It is accredited from the American Association of Museums (AAM), the highest national recognition for a museum.

“Mallard Duck” and “Flamingo Dancers” were made entirely from magazine strips using a process that Coyle calls “painting with paper” – whereby she recreates the look and feel of a painting through the manipulation of magazine scraps. Coyle’s “Mallard Duck” was completed in 2011 and “Flamingo Dancers” was completed in 2010.

The newly acquired collages will also be in the Ward Museum’s upcoming “Subject to Interpretation” group exhibit. The show runs from April 13th until July 8th, 2012 and focuses on a wide variety of bird species depicted by different artists.
