Gallery Thirteen recently formed a special partnership with Red Rocks Pizza Napoletana of Old Town Alexandria to develop and manage “The Firebricks & Frames Exhibition Series.” The new series runs from June until December of 2011, and features a different artist every month. The series is hosted by Red Rocks and begins with a launch party on June 8th from 7:00 – 10:00pm. Each featured artist will also have an opening reception during his or her exhibit month.
Megan Coyle is the featured artist for July. Her exhibit will run from July 1st until the 31st, and will showcase portraiture, animal, landscape, and cityscape collages. This will be her first exhibit in Northern Virginia that features such a great variety of subject matter. An opening reception for Coyle’s show will be held at Red Rocks on July 7th at 7:00pm.
Coyle turns stacks of magazines into two-dimensional works of art. She cuts and pastes magazine strips in such a way that they strongly resemble the brushstrokes in a painting. Thus she’s coined the phrase “painting with paper” to describe her artwork.
So if you’re interested in seeing Coyle’s intricate collages up-close and in-person, visit Red Rocks during the month of July. You can stop by for a bite to eat and stay for the artwork.
