Megan Coyle will be an Artist in Residence at the Torpedo Factory Art Center (TFAC) this summer, during June and July. After a highly competitive process, a TFAC committee chose Coyle to be one of the first participants in the Center’s inaugural Visiting Artist Program.
As an Artist in Residence, Coyle will work out of studio 30, which is adjacent to the Torpedo Factory’s main entrance. In addition to working on self-directed projects, the residency will provide Coyle the opportunity to conduct a workshop, give a lecture, or provide a public demonstration of her signature “painting with paper” technique.
Her residency will coincide with her solo exhibition at the Art League’s gallery, which is also located in the Torpedo Factory. Though her art career is still in the beginning stages, Ms. Coyle has already garnered praise for her unique process of manipulating magazines strips in such a way that she constructs versatile collages that embody the characteristics of other mediums, such as oil or acrylic paintings. Coyle views the Artist in Residence position as a great opportunity to expose her work to a wider audience.
