May 4th, 2013

Washington, D.C. – Three unique DC artists will be part of an unusual group show at the coffeehouse Tryst opeing May 7th, curated by Elizabeth Grazioli of arts consultancy ArtSee. Part of what makes the exhibition unique is that the three artists are also authors. The exhibition will highlight their recently published book, an anthology that includes the writing of fifty artists, titled Bourgeon: Fifty Arts Write About Their Work. The one month exhibition will have a celebratory opening on May 7, and book editor Robert Bettmann will be on hand with the artists to sign books.

WHAT: Bouregon Artist Authors Group Show
WHO: Michele Banks, Megan Coyle, Camille Mosley-Pasley WHEN: Thursday, May 7, 2013 7:00 – 9:00 pm
WHERE: Tryst, 2459 18th St NW, Washington DC 20009

Megan Coyle creates landscape/cityscape collages, to explore everyday settings. She gives viewers a new perspective on familiar environments by recreating different scenes in collage form. The lines in architecture and abstract shadows in natural landscapes, create an interesting blend of color and light.

Camille Mosley-Pasley creates portraits of mother and child, entitled “Mama Love.” There is no single definition for Mama Love. It is a type of transcendent love that is difficult to describe. Mama love cannot be taught, it is a deep emotional well between mother and child.

Michele Banks explores the question of what it means to be alive. Much of her inspiration comes from science, especially biology and medicine. Scientific discoveries are constantly bringing to light new aspects of the human condition – for example, human genome research and microbiome research, which reveals that humans are not only clusters of cells but environments for a host of bacteria and viruses.

The Bourgeon Book contains fifty articles by artists about their work, and compiles in one place some of the best articles from the magazine’s first five years. The artists whose essays are included in the book are a who’s who of contemporary art in the Washington, D.C. area. To see more about the Bourgeon Book visit http://book.dayeight.org.
