Made from Magazines

June 20th, 2012

The Shirlington Library Gallery is going to display a solo show of Megan Coyle’s animal collages. The exhibit will include several of her recently completed works of art that are also traveling to an exhibit in North Charleston, South Carolina in August. All her collages are made entirely from magazine strips using a technique she calls “painting with paper.” “Made from Magazines” explores compositions of different species, with each work of art intricately constructed from layered paper.

Coyle has always been drawn to animals, so it’s no surprise that they appear in her artwork. She grew up in the D.C. area and often visited the National Zoo and Natural History Museum. Now she continues to visit the zoo and museums to gather inspiration for artwork, like the series featured in “Made from Magazines.”

The exhibit opens on July 1st and runs until July 28th, 2012.
